AUSSCHREIBUNG
Vom 10. bis 15. November 2009 präsentiert das 26. Kasseler Dokumentarfilm- und Videofest in einer einzigartigen medienübergreifenden Mischung:
- rund 230 internationale Dokumentarfilme sowie experimentelle und künstlerische Arbeiten
- 16 Medieninstallationen in der Ausstellung MONITORINGdie das Medium Film/Video aus dem Kinosaal heraus in den Ausstellungskontext überführt
- audiovisuelle Performances und VJ-Kunst in der DokfestLounge
- sowie die interdisziplinäre Workshop-Tagung interfiction zum Thema „playground : spielplatz“.
Wir laden ab sofort alle Künstler/innenFilmemacher/innenVerleiher/innenProduktionenGalerist/innenHochschulen und Institutionen ein sich mit aktuellen Arbeiten und Projekten für die einzelnen Sektionen des 26. Kasseler Dokumentarfilm- und Videofestes zu bewerben. Einsendeschluss ist der 20. Juli 2009.
DOKUMENTARFILMVIDEOKUNST
Der Dokumentarfilm ist für das Festival Tradition und Selbstverständnis. Ein starker Fokus liegt daher auf aktuellen Filmen und Videos die ihre Themen mit dokumentarischen Mitteln untersuchen. Beim Kasseler Dokfest kommen aber nicht nur „klassische“ lange Dokumentarfilme zur Aufführung sondern auch solche – meist kurze Werke – die die traditionellenformalen Herangehensweisen des Dokumentarischen aufbrechen indem sie beispielsweise experimentelle oder animierte Elemente mit dokumentarischen verbinden. Diese „Hybride“ erweitern das Spektrum des Dokumentarfilms und bilden einen charakteristischen Teil des Festivalprogramms. Zur Einreichung sind Arbeiten jeder Länge zugelassen.
MONITORING
Die Ausstellung MONITORING befasst sich mit zeitgenössischen raumbezogenen Positionen der Medienkunst und erweitert somit den kinematographischen Raum des Festivals. Aus den Einreichungen werden 16 Medieninstallationen und -skulpturen ausgewählt, die während des Festivals im Südflügel des Kasseler KulturBahnhofs und im Kasseler Kunstverein präsentiert werden. Die Ausstellung wird in Kooperation mit dem Kasseler Kunstverein und dem Kulturdezernat/documenta Archiv der Stadt Kassel veranstaltet.
AUDIOVISUELLE PERFORMANCE
Die Lounge des Festivals zeigt ein Programm aus audiovisuellen Performances und VJ-Kunst. Zur Einreichung eingeladen sind Live-Konzepte für Bewegtbild und MusikSoundperformancesLive VisualsVJing und jede Art von Experiment in analogen oder digitalen Medien.
INTERFICTION
playground : spielplatz: Die Fachtagung interfiction mit VorträgenPräsentationen und Workshops wird sich in diesem Jahr auf den Spielplatz begeben um neue und alte Konzepte sowie Konstruktionen von Orten und Räumen für spielerische Strategien und Praktiken in digitalen und analogen MedienKultur und Kunst zu erkunden. An einem transdisziplinären Austausch interessierte Künstler/innenVideo- und Filmemacher/innenVermittler/innen(Netz-)Kultur-Theoretiker/innen und -Praktiker/innen sind dazu eingeladen im Rahmen der Tagung Thesen und Projekte zum Thema vorzustellen und zu diskutieren. PREISE
Eine Auswahl der im Festivalprogramm präsentierten Arbeiten wird für einen der vier Preise nominiert.
Das Bemühen des Festivals um den filmischen Nachwuchs findet in dem durch die Stadt Kassel geförderten „Goldenen Schlüssel“ für die beste dokumentarische Nachwuchsarbeit seinen Ausdruck. Das Preisgeld beträgt 5.000 Euro.
Der mit 2.500 Euro dotierte „Goldene Herkules“ für eine herausragende nordhessische Produktion wird zum zweiten Mal von der Machbar GmbHAgentur für Unternehmenskommunikation mit Hauptsitz in Kassel vergeben.
Die beste Installation der Ausstellung MONITORING wird mit dem „Golden Cube“ und 2.500 Euro ausgezeichnet. Im dritten Jahr wird dieser Preis von dem Softwareunternehmen Micromata GmbH gestiftet.
Das Festival vergibt zudem gemeinsam mit Werkleitz – Zentrum für Medienkunst das Produktions-Stipendium „A38“. Das Stipendium ist dank des Engagements der Hessischen Landesanstalt für privaten Rundfunk und neue Medien (LPR Hessen) und der Medienanstalt Sachsen-Anhalt (MSA) mit bis zu 3.000 Euro Unterhalts- sowie max. 1.000 Euro Reisekosten ausgestattet. Darüber hinaus stehen Sachleistungen im Wert von bis zu 4.000 Euro zur Verfügung.

CALL FOR ENTRIES
From November 10 to 152009 the 26th Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival presents:
- about 230 international documentary films as well as experimental and artistic works
- 16 media installations in the exhibition MONITORING transferring the medium film from the cinema to the context of an exhibition
- audiovisual performances and VJ-art in the DokfestLounge
- as well as the interdisciplinary workshop symposium interfiction.
We now invite all artistsfilmmakersdistributorsproducersgallery ownersuniversities or institutions to submit latest works and projects to the different sections of the festival. Deadline for entries is July 202009.
DOCUMENTARYFILMVIDEOART
The documentary film traditionally forms the festival’s center. Thusthe festival puts its main emphasis on films and videos exploring their subject by documentary means. Selected are not merely traditional documentary films but particularly short works as well breaking with formal approaches to documentary filmmaking by linking experimental or animated elements with documentary ones. Theses “hybrids” expand the scale of documentary work and contribute to a characteristic part of the festival program. There is
no restriction in terms of the running time of submitted works.
MONITORING
The exhibition MONITORING is devoted to contemporary space-oriented media art in enhancing the cinematographic scope of the festival. 16 media installations and sculptures are selected among the entries and displayed during the festival in the Südflügel at Kassel KulturBahnhof and Kasseler Kunstverein. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Kasseler Kunstverein and the documenta Archive of the City of Kassel.
AUDIOVISUAL PERFORMANCE
The lounge of the festival presents a program of audiovisual performances and VJ-art. This section is calling for live visuals, audiovisual performance concepts, Live Cinemasound performances and any kind of experiments produced in analog or digital media.
INTERFICTION
playground : spielplatz: This year’s symposium interfiction (with lecturespresentations and workshop-sessions) invites to discover and explore new and old concepts and constructions of spaces and places for playful strategies and methods in digital and analog mediaculture and art. Artistsvideo- and filmmakersresearcherscuratorswritersactivists and others interested in transdisciplinary exchange on the related issues are invited to join the conference and discuss their ideas and projects. AWARDS
A selection of the presented films and videos as well as installations will be nominated for one of the four awards.
The “Golden Key” award seeks to support the best documentary submitted by a young director. It is endowed with 5000 Euro and sponsored by the City of Kassel.
The “Golden Hercules”worth 2500 Euroawards an outstanding production from the region of Northern Hesse. For the second time runningit’s sponsored by the Machbar GmbHa corporate communications company headquartered in Kassel.
The software company Micromata GmbH continuously supports the “Golden Cube” with 2500 Euro in prize money. It awards the best installation of the exhibition MONITORING.
Moreoverboth the festival and the Werkleitz – Centre for Media Art present the Production Grant “A38”. Thanks to the kind support of the LPR Hessen and the Medienanstalt Sachsen-Anhalt the grant includes up to 4000 Euro for living and traveling expenses and up to additional 4000 Euro for allowance in kind.
